Cleaning Tile in Your New Home

Make sure it’s 1/2 cup ammonia to every gallon of water. Let the solution sit on your floor for three to five minutes, and then scrub with a nylon or plastic scouring pad to remove the wax. Wipe away leftover residue with a clean cloth or sponge, then give the floor a thorough rinsing.

Kill mildew on your bathroom tiles by sponging them with a 1/4 cup of ammonia in 1 gallon of water.

Pencil erasers

Those new shoes have left black streak marks all over the kitchen floor, and you’re not sure what to do with them? An eraser will actually remove them in no time.

Steel wool

Those black marks that rubber soles leave behind don’t just come off with your mop. To rid your vinyl floor of unsightly smudges, rub the surface with a steel wool pad that has been moistened. When the mark is gone, wipe the floor clean with a damp sponge.

Tea

Tea is actually great for cleaning furniture and floors made of wood. Boil a few tea bags in a liter of water and then let it cool. Dip a soft cloth in the tea, and wring out the excess. Use it to wipe away dirt. Dry it with a clean, soft cloth.

Vinegar

If water spots or soap scum have dulled the ceramic tiles in your bathroom, bring back the brightness by scrubbing them with vinegar. Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1/2 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup borax with 1 gallon of water. Rinse very well with cool water and then let air-dry.

WD-40

Sometimes a new coat of wax can make your floors look too shiny. To tone down the brightness, spray some WD-40 onto a soft cloth and wipe up the floor with it.
